Life Writing Course at WHC Library

Writing Your Story
Life Writing Course for Adults Your life is a story – not just your own personal story, but the story of your ancestors, your family, your place and your community.
This course will help you to tap into the resources of your life to write your own stories.
Places on this course are limited to 12, so give your name in at the desk if you are interested. The course will start on Wednesday 24th September at 6pm and it will run for 8 weeks, each Wed night until 7.45pm. Your main tools will be pen and paper and your own memory and imagination. Over the period of the course, you will develop your own Story Notebook, which can be built on when the programme ends and shared with others. The programme will develop through a series of story topics and exercises, such as the following:
  • Writing down your earliest memories.
  • Writing stories from family photographs.
  • Preparing a memory box of items from your past.
  • Picking a place that is special – revisiting and describing it.
  • Interviewing somebody from your past and telling their stories.
  • Using library and other resources to place you in history e.g. what was happening on the day you were born.
  • Your genealogy – putting together a simple family tree.
  • Unforgettable characters from your life.
  • Great occasions in your experience – sporting, historical, celebrities etc.
